How are students admitted?

There are two ways in which students may be admitted to the university. Students who fully meet our published admissions criteria will be offered Guaranteed Admission. Students who are not offered Guaranteed Admission may be considered for Admission by Committee.

Guaranteed Freshman Admission Requirements
for In-State Students

Completion of the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school core curriculum and a mathematics ACT score of at least 18 (430 Math SAT) or an English ACT score of at least 18 (450 Verbal/Critical Reasoning SAT)

AND EITHER

1) high school GPA of 2.5 or higher using an unweighted 4.0 scale

OR

2) ACT composite score of at least 23 (SAT 1060--combined Math & Verbal/Critical Reasoning) with at least a 2.0 GPA

OR

3) rank in the top 25% of the high school graduating class and at least a 2.0 GPA

Guaranteed Transfer Admission Requirements

Degree-seeking students who have earned at least 18 non-developmental semester hours:

  • eligibility to return to the most recent institution attended
  • completion of or eligibility to enroll in college level English and mathematics courses
  • a cumulative college GPA of 2.25 (excluding developmental/remedial courses)

Degree-seeking students with fewer than 18 non-developmental semester hours:

  • eligibility to return to the most recent institution attended
  • eligibility for Guaranteed Admission under the freshman criteria listed
  • a cumulative college GPA of 2.25 (excluding developmental/remedial courses)

Admission by Committee

Students who do not meet the criteria for Guaranteed Admission will be considered individually for Admission by Committee. To apply for Admission by Committee, students must submit, in addition to the other required credentials, a typed letter including any information they deem relevant about their interests, goals, life experiences, co-curricular and work experiences, and personal strengths and talents. As we are required to limit Admissions by Committee to 7% of the entering class, it is important that students seeking Admission by Committee complete the application process as soon as possible. Please note that the Undergraduate Admissions Committee is unable to consider applicants whose files are not complete at least three weeks prior to the date upon which they wish to enroll.

Re-entry Student Admission

Students previously enrolled at UL Lafayette who wish to enroll in classes after an absense of at least one semester must complete an admissions application for readmission to the university. In addition, they are required to submit transcripts of all academic work attempted since their last date of enrollment at UL Lafayette.

GED Recipients & Graduates of Non-Accredited High Schools

Students who have earned a high school equivalency degree (GED) or graduated from a non-accredited high school will be considered for Admission by Committee.

Out of State Students--First Time Freshmen

Out of state students are considered for guaranteed freshman admission if they meet the Guaranteed Freshman Admission Requirements listed above, including completing the Louisiana Board of Regents' high school core curriculum.
